Meet on the Ocean Boardwalk just south of Crystal Pier
(Walk should be finished by 6:30 pm)

It’s a new year and looking back over the last few years, it is clear that Pacific Beach has made tremendous strides toward reaching its full potential as the gem of San Diego that we all know it is.   However, problems in our business district have always been at the top of our SavePB surveys, and we believe 2012 is the year we will finally be able to fix those problems.  Here is an event that will get us on our way toward achieving that goal!

If you have ever been concerned about:

  • Too many bars
  • Too many DUI
  • And high crime

In our PB business district, this is a MUST ATTEND event! Continue reading

Support Police With Bicycle Lights & Sirens

PAESAN-Police-Fundraiser Flyer

Contributing to the Police Bicycle Resource Program is a good way to help our police officers enforce the law and deter crime in Pacific Beach.

According to police, a few weeks ago at about 12:30 a.m. on a Friday, officers spotted a white Toyota near Dawes and Missouri streets that was reported to have been used in at least three similar robberies there. Two men armed with knives, including a women driver, were apprehended. Police officers were able to approach the suspects unnoticed on their bikes.

Police say that bikes are effective tools to provide stealth as well as place them on the street interfacing with the public. However, our Northern Division police cannot use all of their bikes because they are short on necessary equipment.

National Night Out Against Crime

    National Night Out Against Crime
    Tuesday, August 2nd
    Pacific Beach

Turn Your Porch Light On in Solidarity and Read On to Find Out What Else You Can Do

Join people all over the country in observing this night of awareness and acknowledgement:
Neighbors working together have the power to rid their neighborhoods of crime!

When neighbors get to know each other, keep their eyes and ears open to what goes on in the neighborhood, and report suspicious and criminal activities, they are able to thwart crime and improve quality of life. The police cannot be everywhere, but with the help of vigilant community members, the police can target their efforts and be more effective in catching and deterring criminals.

What You Can Do:

  • Turn your Porch Light On August 2nd
  • Get to know your neighbors
  • Be observant in your neighborhood and community
  • Take the time to report crimes and suspicious activities
  • Don’t be afraid to contact your local police captain and lieutenant
  • Consider forming a Neighborhood Watch group so you can easily communicate with your neighbors (email info@SavePB.org for more information)
  • Print the 3 handouts attached to help you solve problems effectively:
    1) Problem Solver Directory
    2) How to Get Rid of Crime and Nuisances in Your Neighborhood
    3) How to Deal with Noisy Bars (and other related nuisances)

In the last 6 years, as a result of active citizens working together, we have seen tremendous improvements in our wonderful community of Pacific Beach.

But we must not become complacent. Remember:
Working Together We ARE Powerful and We CAN Solve Problems in Our Community

You can now file a police report online

“Our two cars were broken into and rifled last night!” This happened to one of our SavePB members last week. There was nothing the police could do immediately but, as we know, crimes that are not reported don’t become part of the crime statistics so it is very important to report all crimes. Also, calls for service help determine police staff allocations, so if we report things, we may get more policing in the area. The victim of the car break-ins quickly and conveniently reported the non-emergency crime online, received his incident number then called his insurance company.

You can now file a police report online to report some non-emergency crimes. When you have filed a police report online, you will receive a PDF copy as an attachment in your email within five business days of approval.
Citizens Online Reporting System:
  http://www.sandiego.gov/police/crimereports/startaccess.html

For non-emergencies that you feel should be responded to quickly, it’s still best to call the SDPD’s 24-hour non-emergency number:
If you live in Area Code 858, call (858) 484-3154

If you live in Area Code 619, call (619) 531-2000

Please note: The SDPD response to non-emergency calls will depend on the relative seriousness or priority of the situation, the likelihood of making an arrest at the scene, and the availability of an officer. Don’t worry that your call will “bug” the police or keep them from responding to more important crimes. Dispatchers prioritize the calls and the police respond to higher priority calls first.

Crimes and suspicious activities that fall into the non-emergency category are:

  • Those that don’t involve serious personal injury, property damage, or property loss, e.g. loud parties delete– the person calling must be willing to sign a complaint
  • When there is no possibility that the suspect is still at the scene and is unlikely to return to the scene, e.g. auto theft and vandalism
  • When an immediate response is not needed, e.g. loitering near schools or parks.

If there is any doubt as to whether the situation is an emergency, it is always better to be on the safe side and call 9-1-1.
