Parking

Background:

Pacific Beach has its own parking management district, called the PB Community Parking District.  The city has allowed the formation of local parking districts so that communities can tailor parking solutions to fit local problems and needs.  So far, only PB, La Jolla and Old Town have garnered city approval for their local parking management districts.  Some of the possible solutions that have been suggested include parking meters in the business district (with parking validation for customers), residential parking permits, increasing parking requirements for new development, increased enforcement of current parking laws, beach shuttle program, and pursuit of public parking structure.

About the PB Community Parking District

The PB Community Parking District board has 13 members:

  • 3 members from PB Town Council (2 residential, 1 business)
  • 3 members from PB Community Planning Committee (2 residential, 1 business)
  • 3 members from Discover PB (3 business)
  • 4 “At-large” members from the community (residential or business)

The Pacific Beach Parking Committee meets the second Thursday of every month at the Earl and Birdie Taylor Library at 6:30p.m.  The meetings our open to the public.  The committee maintains a website with ideas, agendas, meeting minutes and more.  Click here for their website-> http://www.pacificbeachparking.org/.

How you can get involved:

An “At-large” member must be a PB resident or business owner (or designated representative).  The community has been divided into quadrants - NW, SW, NE, SE from the intersection of Garnet and Ingraham.  One applicant from each quadrant will be selected by lottery.  Board members will serve for one year.  The application form is available here PB Community Parking District Application and is also at the PB library and at Discover PB (1503 Garnet).  For those interested, copies of the PB Community Parking District proposal can be obtained at Discover PB.

We hope some of you will be interested in serving on this board and helping our community take control of and seek solutions to our parking issues.

General SavePB.org Sub-Committee process:

A SavePB.org Parking subcommittee has not been formed.  Typically, a sub-committee selects one person as the chair person (and primary contact). Sub-committee members decide how they will communicate or meet and how often. For their specific issue, sub-committee members define the problem(s) and plan the actions that can lead to solutions. Each sub-committee will be given the opportunity to post information on the SavePB.org website and submit email for distribution to SavePB.org members.
