The purpose of the Pacific Beach Public Schools sub-committee is to publicize the good things happening in our local schools and provide information on how you can get involved.  Pacific Beach's public schools are listed below:

Elementary Schools:

Join a public school support organization:

Mission Bay High School and Pacific Beach Middle School:  The Friends of Pacific Beach Secondary Schools (FOPBSS) is the Parent/Teacher Organization for Pacific Beach Middle School and Mission Bay High School.  Meetings are the third Tuesday of each month, at 6:30 pm and the place rotates between PBMS Media Center and Mission Bay High library. Crown Point Elementary School:

Crown Point Elementary School PTA:  The Crown Point PTA sponsors ongoing school activities such as Pizza Wednesdays, ice cream Fridays and the Running Club (every Tues and Thurs during school time). Also there is the annual Scholastic Book Fair, First Day Breakfast for Families, the La Jolla Playhouse Schools Production (this year it is called "West of the Five"), field trip buses, books for the classrooms, science materials for the classrooms sponsored by the PTA.  For more information contact the PTA secretary:  Gary Stanley art.sandiego@earthlink.net

Resident Artist/Art Teacher:  Crown Point has a resident artist/art teacher this year, Ms. R. Butikofer. Weekly art classes are held, one grade at a time.

7,000 Book Library:  Crown Point Elementary has a 7,000 book library and librarian April Gilbert encourages students to visit during recess and lunch. Classes have weekly directed learning in the library where computers are connected to the Internet.


Pacific Beach Elementary School (Friends of Pacific Beach Elementary School or "FOPBE"):  FOPBE is committed to enriching the learning environment for all students by bringing educational assemblies, instrumental music, fine art, science equipment and state-of-the-art computer technology to the classrooms.  We sponsor events such as the Missoula Children’s Theatre, Environmental Science Garden, Enviroschool, Variety Show, Jog-a-thon, Pizza Wednesday, Red Ribbon Week, Arts Attack classes & Art Show, Chess Club, Spanish Club, Choir, Instrumental Music, and Special Family Nights for Astronomy, Math & Art.  Classroom materials purchased by FOPBE include additional challenging curriculum to complement our standard curriculum, microscopes, art supplies, science materials, and software.  

Come join our fulfilling, enthusiastic environment of academic staff and volunteers by contacting FOPBE.  Opportunities include working one-on-one with reading and math, assisting with the garden or art activities, office support, playground helpers, etc.  Donations are also appreciated, and they are fully tax deductible!  We accomplish many wonderful things with our enrichment monies.  Visitors are always welcome at our beautiful campus.

Friends of Pacific Beach Elementary (FOPBE) usually meet during the second week of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the school library.  Remaining dates for the 2005-2006 school year are Wednesday- February 8, Tuesday- March 14, Monday- April 17, Wednesday- May 10 and Wednesday, June 14.  Contact Laura Daly, FOPBE President, at (858) 270-4947 or the school office at (858) 488-8316 with any questions.


Kate Sessions Elementary "Friends of Kate Sessions" (FOKS):  The Friends of Kate Sessions Foundation is a non-profit organization established to enhance and enrich the learning experience of our students and foster an environment of excellence in education at Kate Sessions Elementary School. We are able to provide our children with music instruction weekly, a librarian and weekly visits for read-aloud's and book checkouts. We provide equipment for our physical education program. We fund and run the "Everyone A Reader Program". We help fund the Peace Patrol, a student group that helps maintain peaceful solutions and resolutions on campus. We also fund and coordinate special programs through assemblies. All of these things are made possible by the fundraising efforts of our foundation and the generous donations from families and businesses.  FOKS meets in the school auditorium the second Tuesday of every month.  For more information contact the Kate Sessions office directly at 858-273-3111.

According to Newsweek magazine, 6 of the top 10 public schools in the nation are International Baccalaureate (IB) schools.  Pacific Beach Middle School and Mission Bay High School have been working for the past two years to implement the International Baccalaureate program.  IB classes will start at Mission Bay High School in Fall 2006 and Fall 2007 at Pacific Beach Middle School.  For more information on the International Baccalaureate program, please refer to http://www.ibo.org or contact the schools directly.
